Pancake Snare 6"

Pancake Snare 6"

It’s a Pancake Tom…it’s a Pancake Snare…you decide.

The CP Pancake Snares have a shorter sustain and are bold with a full, round, vibrant sound.  These drums are very responsive in their sound and play.  They sound lively, like a full-sized drum.  You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the depth of sound you’ll get from these drums.

CP Rocket Snare features:

  • Natural 5-ply, cross-grain laminated maple shells, with a hand-rubbed polyurethane finish.
  • No vent holes so the drum has virtually no overtones.
  • Dual, 45-degree bearing edges.
  • Fully adjustable CP snare mechanism with 12-strand snare wires.
  • Fully adjustable CP chain-drop mechanism.
  • An easy-tune lugless design to give you single-tension tuning from the top with a drum key, like a standard snare drum.  The lugless design creates a free-floating drumshell with no tension/dampening from the lugs, giving it more freedom to vibrate.
  • Chrome hoops, 2.3mm, triple flanged.
  • Clear Attack 10 mil head on the top with a thinner snare-side head on the bottom.

We love our Popcorn and Pancake drums so much; the next logical step was the Pancake Snare.

We didn’t want a big, bulky, exterior snare throw-off so we went to work designing the CP snare mechanism.

Being on a pancake drum, the snare mechanism needed to be unobtrusive and compact.  In keeping with the CP style, it needed to be versatile and different.  These requirements led to the CP internal snare mechanism that can be used on either the top or bottom head, or not at all, with a mere rotation of a dial.  Another bonus of having the mechanism on a dial is that you can have just a few wires touching either head, giving you a unique effect and more versatility.

Because Kevin is somewhat of a mad scientist, he couldn’t stop there…. We also added a fully adjustable chain-drop mechanism.  The chain-drop adds an after-effect to the bottom head, meaning, you hear the initial strike of the drum and then you hear the chains bouncing.  This feature widens the spectrum of the drum.  Use the chains with or without the snare wires on for two completely different sounds.  The separate dial allows you to adjust how much of the chains are touching the bottom head.

    Heads:

The top head is a 10 mil clear head.  The bottom is a thinner snare-side head.  Single tension tuning gives an easy way to have the same tension and similar pitch in both heads while tuning the drum from the top.

    Shallow:

With shells measuring in at just over 2” deep, these drums have less area to fill between the drumheads.  This feature, combined with no vent holes, means the air can’t escape or linger.  When hit, these drums create a sound wave that fills the area between the drumheads and quickly cancels itself out, giving them a shorter sustain. The shallow depth also gives you the ability to have these drums fit in amongst, and even hang slightly over, other drums.  We call it Space Saver Depth.

    Sound:

With snare wires on the top head, you’ll get a dampening effect which can range depending how tight you have the head and the wires.  The sound and feel will be dryer than a typical snare.

With the snare wires on the bottom head, you’ll get more of a typical snare sound, which will be more wide-open due to the thinner bottom head.

With the snare wires in the neutral position, not touching either head, you’ll get an entirely different sound.  Tune it high for a timbale sound, tune it lower for a tom sound.
