Give your playing a quick, musical trashy effect with CP Hex Stax!

The Hex Stax Sets are comprised of 3 layers of the same size hex-shaped steel. Each layer is individually cut, hammered and heat treated. No two are alike! Each set is paired and tested for sound to ensure they blend well together.  Our Hex Stax are meant to be played as a set of 3 layers or more. We do not recommend playing them as a single layer. You will not achieve the desired, trashy sound with only one layer.

Hex Stax give you a trashy sound with a great sharp attack. These Stax will cut through without being overpowering.  They are the perfect accent piece and will stand our from the ordinary!   It’s a sound unlike anything else in your drumkit. Hex Stax are available in odd sizes from 5" all the way up to 15".

Have your sound your way because no two drummers are alike!

Unique features:

  • Each hex-shaped piece is hammered on both sides. This dual hammering leaves unique indentations and patterns protruding on each surface so they will never lay flat against each other, giving you a more lively sound.
  • Because they have different indentation patterns, you can flip them over and stack them in different orders to get different characteristics.
  • The heat treatment gives each one a unique set of colors. Heat treating the steel also changes the sound, leaving each set with its own identity.
  • Most stacks on the market are made of 2 layers, we’ve added a 3rd layer for more adaptability, creativity and depth to your sound.

Hex Stax are fully adjustable depending on how you stack them and how much you tighten your stand’s wingnut down. Don’t hesitate to experiment by flipping them over, changing the order and changing the orientation.

Get creative, find your own sound, buy a set of each size and interchange them.  Use them as an accent or the larger sizes can be used as a trashy effects ride cymbal.  Try placing the larger size in a snare stand and used as a “hip-hop snare drum”.  The Stax deliver a different sound when using the tip of the stick vs the shoulder of the stick. Add a Hex Jingle, Hex Hub or anything from our Modular System and hear the difference it makes!  As you change the sizes, the pitch and volume will change as well, the smaller the size, the higher the pitch, the lower the volume.  The possibilities are truly endless!

If you already own a set of Hex Stax or want a combination of sizes, you can purchase individual layers from the "Singles" option and completely change your sound! You can also combine the Hex Stax with our Holey Hex Stax for even more variation.  Holey Stax are available upon request. Contact us for details and pricing.

While we do oil all our metal products before they leave the shop, the Hex Stax will oxidize over time. This oxidation is part of the organic look we were going for. Here at the Creative Percussion shop in the Northeast, we have a high moisture content which helps speed the aging and oxidation along a little faster. Depending on the climate you live in, you may see varying degrees of rust on your Hex Metal products over time as well!

Most people are loving the way their Hex Metal products have aged, but we realize that some people may prefer a cleaner, low-luster, oil-rubbed finish.

Here's how to get a low-sheen, oil-rubbed look:

  • Apply a thin layer of WD-40 to your metal product.
  • Rub the surface with a clean dry cloth to ensure even coating.
  • Depending on your level of rust, it may take several repetitions to remove.
  • Let your Stax sit overnight then buff any excess oil off with a paper towel.

This simple maintenance option may not remove the rust entirely; however, it will take the exterior surface rust off. The finish will have a low sheen to it, and you can reapply the oil as often as needed.

We hope you love your Hex Metal products!
