The Popcorn FX Drums are made with shallow, natural maple shells which have a hand-rubbed polyurethane finish. They are designed to have no vent holes so the drums have virtually no overtones. They have dual, 45 degree bearing edges and an easy-tune lug-less design to give you single-tension tuning from the top with a drum key, like a standard snare drum. The chrome hoops are 2.3mm, triple flanged and the heads are clear single-ply.
The Popcorn FX Drums come with a center Bullseye Level.  When the drum is completely level the popcorn is evenly distributed, giving a wider sound. The Popcorn FX Drum works best with an Omni Snare Stand as they allow you to adjust the playing surface to level or out of level. Play it out of level to engage less popcorn for less snare sound.
 
Heads:
Pancake FX Toms: All sizes of the Pancake FX Toms have matching 10 mil clear heads, top and bottom. 
Popcorn FX Drums: The Popcorn FX Drums, 6”, 8” and 16” have 10 mil on the top and 7.5 mil on the bottom, while sizes 10” - 15” have 10 mil on the top and snare side on the bottom.
>>>Single tension tuning gives an easy way to have the same tension and similar pitch in both heads while tuning the drum from the top. For a different sound with the bigger drums, try a 2-ply top head (12” and larger).
 
Shallow: 
Pancake FX Toms: A shallow depth gives these drums less area to fill between the drumheads. This feature, combined with no vent holes, means the sound can’t escape or linger. When hit, these drums will create a sound wave that fills the area between the drumheads that can quickly cancel itself out, giving them a shorter sustain. 
Popcorn FX Drum: The shallow depth allows the popcorn to bounce off and hit both drumheads for a wider sound.

Sound: 
Pancake FX Toms: These have a shorter sustain and are bold with a full, round, vibrant sound. They are very responsive in their sound and play. They sound lively, like a full-sized drum. You’ll be pleasantly surprised and the depth of sound you’ll get from these drums.
Popcorn FX Drum: Popcorn is used because of its odd shape and that it never spoils. Round pieces would roll but popcorn will lay flat and not move like a round piece would. Popcorn has the perfect weight and shape for what we wanted. It allows you to play the drum lightly and still have the sensitivity of a normal snare drum. When the popcorn bounces you will get a slight delay giving you a reverb-type snare sound without snare wires or digital effects. You can add or remove popcorn to adjust the depth of reverb (the more popcorn, the more muted the drum will be).
