FX CYMBALS, HEXaGONGS & BELLS

Cymbals Gongs Bells

We wanted to make a line of FX Cymbals, Gongs, and Bells with different tonal values than traditional cymbals, gongs and bells, while still keeping the signature "CP look" that we have with all our metal products.

    PLEASE BE AWARE

Our FX Cymbals are more flat than a traditional cymbal and our HEXaGongs will not ring as long as a traditional gong!

Both are made of steel and have different looks, feels and sounds.

Please watch and listen to the videos below so you know what you are purchasing.

If you have ANY questions, please contact us BEFORE you purchase.

SAMPLES OF FX CYMBALS WE HAVE PERVIOUSLY MADE

CP FX Cymbals      vs.      Traditional Cymbals

  • Bell: Thinner, hand-hammered

  • Body: Even thickness from bell to edge

  • Profile: Slightly bowed, more flat

  • Material: Steel

  • Bell: Thick

  • Body: Gets gradually thinner as you get to the outer edge

  • Profile: Bowed/arched

  • Material: Brass or Bronze

With CP FX Cymbals, the stretched metal of the bell, due to hand-hammering, makes our bells not quite as loud as a traditional cymbal bell but still loud enough to cut through the mix.

Our cymbals are not lathed or pressed with a hydraulic machine, they are cut, hammered and shaped by hand.

Each is individually heat-treated to bring out the unique colors and tones of the metal.

SAMPLES OF HEXaGONGS WE HAVE PERVIOUSLY MADE

How do HEXaGONGs differ from traditional gongs?

  • Instead of brass or bronze, we use steel.

  • Instead of round, we went with our signature CP shape, a hexagon…and it fits right in with the name!

  • Our metal is not as thick or heavy as a traditional gong so they will not ring as long.

  • The hexagon shape allows the sound to be pushed out to all 6 points, allowing for more vibration than a round shape.

The Hex Metal Story

In our search for alternative sounds, we just couldn’t find what we were looking for.

So, using our own twisted way of thinking, we decided to create what we wanted

in the Creative Percussion style!

“I love the sound traditional cymbals make, but I was looking for something different.  Having a carpenter’s background and working with wood, not metal, I feel I had an advantage when creating the Hex Stax.  Since metal work was all new to me, I didn’t have any rules or restrictions I needed to abide by, it was all up to me and my creativity.  I simply wanted to create a different sound, and I did.  I put different ideas and processes to the test using, what we call here at CP, a “Kev-olution” process.  After a few prototypes, I got a better understanding of what I really wanted as an end result.  The creation of the Hex Stax was my first go-round with metal and I love how they turned out; exactly what I had envisioned.”

~Kevin Feeney, Creative Percussion Founder

Our Hex Stax were inspired by the simple thought of "I want something that sounds different."  The next thought was "I wonder what holes would do", which lead to the Holey Hex Stax.  From there, it went to add-ons and jingles.  That was the beginning of a never-ending spark of inspiration for our Metal FX Series and Modular System

We went from creating the Hex Stax and Holey Hex Stax to developing an entire system that works together in an "a la carte" manner.

Now we have our Modular Essentials, which are the starting pieces to our whole system of products.  They allow you to add and combine various pieces from our Stax, Metal FX and Jingle & Shakers collections to find the sounds that you're looking for.  Putting our collections together in an “a la carte” style, allows you to purchase individual pieces instead of wasting your money on unnecessary, duplicate parts.  This way, not only can we add to all the collections, but you can affordably add and combine the pieces you want to achieve the sound you’ve been looking for.

We are always searching for the right materials and perfecting techniques to create our unique products to give you a better chance to find your own sound.
